Celebrating International Women’s Day Locally
International Women’s Day (March 8) puts a spotlight on the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women everywhere. Here in Bronte where over 50 percent of our businesses are female-owned and six out seven BIA board members are women, we celebrate the tremendous contributions of our diverse female entrepreneurs.
Walk in any direction throughout the district and you’ll meet women who are changing the world with their business ventures. It’s our pleasure to share some of these stories with you here:
Filedaria’s Tiana Adames specializes in Afro-hair solutions, creating a welcoming space for textured-hair clients.
Sisters Liz & Ann Tran at Simply Green Baby have curated a collection of kids and baby products that put social and environmental responsibility at the centre of their brand.
At bilingual wellness clinic, C’est La Vie Wellness, the all-female team guides patients to optimal health through inclusive and compassionate care.
Taste of Colombia’s Yury Wu and Lynn Choi run a fair-trade coffeeshop that is renowned for its unique classes that connect the community in a celebration of dance, art and culture.
At Goodnight Goodmorning, owner Anya Izakowski has mastered the art of the personalized lingerie and swimwear shopping experience, making everyone who walks through her door feel welcomed, supported and beautiful.
And, of course, we applaud the combined 130 years of business ownership between Bronte trailblazers Indira Roy Choudhury (Trias Gallery – 25 years), Donna-Lee Milford (Rainbow Expressions Salon Inc. – 36 years), Lana Miller (Lana’s Chic Boutique – 34 years) and Marie-Claire Massoud & Ramy Massoud (Bronte Centre Pharmacy – 35 years), who together, have created meaningful opportunities for employment, driven and advanced economic prosperity in the district and contributed to the vibrancy of the community.
To all of our female business owners in Bronte, Happy International Women’s Day! You are vital to the success, progress and evolution of our district.
