Mask Mandate to Remain in Effect in Halton Until March 23
Halton’s Consolidated Mask By-Law 47-20 will remain in effect until end-of-day March 23, at which time the Region, in consultation with Halton Public Health and the Medical Officer of Health, is expected to recommend amending the By-Law to align with the mandate of the province.
The province recently announced it is removing the mandatory masking requirement in most indoor settings including restaurants, retail, gyms, grocery stores and schools as of March 21; however, mask requirements will remain in Oakville and Halton until Regional Council makes a decision on repealing the Mask By-Law.
As the province carries out its reopening plan and key public health indicators continue to improve or stabilize, the Town of Oakville will remain in line with provincial and regional direction and regulations.
Moving forward, businesses may choose to maintain a policy for employees and patrons who enter their premises to continue to wear a mask. Store signage should be updated accordingly and mask policies should be communicated on websites and social media posts.
