The Bronte BIA is excited to announce that the At Home in Bronte Muskoka Chair Project is back for its 9th edition in 2026! This iconic public art installation celebrates creativity, community, and the idea that everyone is welcome.

This year, we’re inviting residents, families, businesses, schools, and community groups to help us paint 50+ new Muskoka chairs for Bronte’s waterfront. Each chair is more than just a seat – it’s a unique canvas, a storytelling piece, and a vibrant addition to our public spaces.

1. What is the Muskoka Chair Project?
The Muskoka Chair Project is a public art initiative where artists of all ages and skill levels design and paint Muskoka chairs. The chairs are then displayed along Bronte’s waterfront, creating a vibrant, interactive outdoor gallery for the community to enjoy.

2. Who can apply?
Anyone! Residents, families, schools, community groups, and local businesses are all welcome. There are no age or skill restrictions – all creativity is encouraged.

3. How many chairs are available for 2026?
This year, 50+ new Muskoka chairs will be painted and installed along the Bronte waterfront.

4. What is the theme for chair designs?
The possibilities are endless! Applicants are encouraged to draw inspiration from Bronte’s harbour, waterfront, parks, local landscapes, heritage, outdoor activities, local businesses, cultural celebrations, flora and fauna, or create abstract designs – but outside the box thinking is both welcomed and encouraged.

5. How do I apply?
Applications will open March 1, 2026 (available on our website).

6. What happens on Installation Day (June 4)?
Participants bring their completed chairs to Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park. The chairs are installed along the waterfront, creating a colourful outdoor gallery. Visitors can explore the designs, meet artists, and enjoy the full display.

7. Will my work be recognized?
Yes! Each chair will have a plaque displaying the artist’s name(s) and the chair’s title, ensuring your contribution is celebrated.

8. Can multiple people work on one chair?
Absolutely! Families, schools, community groups, and businesses are welcome to collaborate on a single chair.

9. Who organizes and sponsors the project?
The Bronte BIA organizes the project, with support from our 175+ member businesses. BUM Outdoor Furniture is our generous project sponsor in helping bring this public art tradition to life.

10. Do I need to provide my own paint or supplies?
A chair kit will be provided to each artist – and the assembly and painting are carried out by the participant or group.
