Bronte Village Paid Parking Program Made Permanent
July 10, 2024 – The Bronte Village Commercial Parking program, first introduced in July 2019 as a two-year pilot program, will continue as a permanent program. The program has effectively managed parking supply and programming in Bronte Village on a cost recovery basis.
The pilot program was designed to enhance vehicle turnover in the commercial district and boost the availability of parking spaces for shoppers. Charging for parking in commercial shopping areas is a common way to promote turnover and manage parking supply.
The pilot program in Bronte was introduced after residents, business owners and commercial property owners raised concerns that visitors to the area were parking for extended periods of time in the commercial district, leaving limited spaces for new shoppers to park.
The costs for commercial parking operations are fully funded from parking rates, fees, and penalties and does not rely on property tax revenue to support the program. Parking revenue is allocated for the management, maintenance, and enforcement of current parking operations. Revenue is also reinvested into the parking program to provide funding for future parking initiatives to support the community.
Payment can be made via single-space meters, multi-space pay-by-plate machines, or electronically through the HONK mobile app. Monthly permits are available for purchase online at oakville.ca. Payment options, equipment types, and permit programs are consistent across all town paid parking programs.
A review of paid parking areas identified for expansion in Bronte will be conducted and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. Staff will report back to Council on the review findings at that time.
